This waiting list is for Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher rental housing assistance in Gary, Indiana.

The Gary Housing Authority (GHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is closed.

The GHA last accepted applications for this waiting list from October 1, 2024, until October 24, 2024. Prior to that, the waiting list was last open in February 2023. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

Current preferences have not been confirmed. A copy of the most current HCV Admin Plan is not available on the housing authority's website. However, when the waiting list was opened in 2023, the following preferences applied. It might be assumed these preferences still apply but you should verify with the housing authority.

1. Live or work in the GHA jurisdiction
2. Elderly
3. Disabled

2,400 selected applicants were placed on this waiting list by random lottery, weighed by preferences. Note that during the 2023 opening, they placed 1,000 applicants on the waiting list. This opening will see significantly more applicants placed on the waiting list. Winning lottery numbers will be announced and applicants will be notified no later than December 9, 2024.
