Jefferson County, Alabama, Mainstream Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List

The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from October 28, 2019, until November 1, 2019; or until 300 applications were submitted. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: According to the HABD, "The Mainstream Voucher Program is for families that include a qualifying household member, who must be non-elderly, disabled. The head of household (head, co-head, or spouse) does not have to be the qualifying member for eligibility consideration."

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to download and print the paper application online.

Once the application has been completed, it must have been post marked no later than November 1, 2019, and mailed to the HABD.

The income limits for each household size were as follows:

1 Person: $26,050 | 5 Person: $40,200

2 Person: $29,800 | 6 Person: $43,200

3 Person: $33,500 | 7 Person: $46,150

4 Person: $37,200 | 8 Person: $49,150

This waiting list had the following preferences:

• Non-Elderly Disabled Household, 7 Points
• Involuntarily Displaced, 10 Points
• Victims of Domestic Violence, 5 Points
• Homeless, 5 Points

It is not known how applicants were placed on the waiting list.
